DENVER—Anthony Maiani scored the game-winning goal as Denver defeated previously unbeaten Minnesota Duluth 5-1 on Friday night.

Kyle Ostrow and Tyler Ruegsegger each had a goal and an assist for the Pioneers (4-1-0, 1-0-0 WCHA), while Rhett Rakhshani tallied two assists.

Brock Trotter opened the scoring for Denver with a power-play goal at 1:59 into the second period. The Bulldogs (3-1-1, 2-1-0) tied it 42 seconds later on Jordan Fulton’s goal, but Maiani put Denver ahead to stay 2-1 at 6:40 of the middle period with assists from Ruegsegger and Rakhshani.

Peter Mannino stopped 22 shots for the Pioneers, while Alex Stalock had 25 saves in the loss for Minnesota Duluth, which before Friday night had given up just five goals while going 3-0-1 through the first two weeks of the season.

The Bulldogs were blanked on the power play for the second straight game, going 0-of-5, but held Denver to one goal in six power-play opportunities.
