A fire at a condominium complex in Boulder was contained Friday, and firefighters were mopping up. About 50 residents were displaced.

Fire Chief Larry Donner said the fire likely would have been contained to a single apartment if the building had a sprinkler system.

City spokeswoman Julie Brooks said fire investigators are looking into the cause of the fire, which resulted in extensive damage at the Gold Run condominium complex.

The fire broke out about 2:45 a.m. Friday.

About 50 residents had to find shelter elsewhere, according to the American Red Cross. Three were treated for smoke inhalation at a hospital. Details on their conditions were not available.

The fire gutted 2802 Sundown Lane, but firefighters kept it from spreading west to 2800 Sundown Lane. The two separate addresses are connected and are structurally one building.

About 18 units are heavily damaged, Brooks said.
