DAYTON, Ohio—Kevin Hoyng passed for two scores and ran for two more to lead Dayton past San Diego 35-16 on Saturday to hand the Torreros their first loss of the season.

Hoyng, who completed 23-of-29 passes for 252 yards without an interception, tossed a 13-yard touchdown pass to J.M. Jonard and a 14-yarder to Matt Champa as the Flyers (8-1, 4-1 Pioneer League) built a 28-10 lead by the midpoint of the third quarter.

The victory tied Dayton with San Diego (7-1, 4-1) for the top spot in the conference.

Hoyng also rushed for 127 yards on 19 carries, scoring on runs of 5 and 42 yards.

San Diego’s Josh Johnson was harassed all day by the Flyers’ defense and he finished 18-of-41 passing for 230 yards with one interception. He was sacked three times for losses totaling 44 yards.

Johnson tossed touchdown passes of 9 yards to Godfrey Smith and 14 yards to Mitch Ryan as the Torreros drew to 28-16 early in the final quarter before Hoyng’s last scoring run put the Flyers out of reach.
