COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A judge says there is enough evidence for a teen to stand trial on a first-degree murder charge in the shooting death of a Western State College athlete.
Tyrief Reynolds, 17, has pleaded not guilty in the death July 9 of 19-year-old Diontea Jackson-Forrest, a former high school standout football player. He was shot in his car while he and a friend were driving through the city, according to testimony Friday.
Reynolds’ attorney, Alan Gasper, said police have the wrong man. Gasper blamed the shooting on another man whom witnesses said was at the scene.
Testimony during a preliminary hearing Friday suggested Jackson-Forrest may have died after he got caught in a fight between rival street gangs in the area of the shooting.
