Do dark colors always make a room look smaller?

This is a common presumption thrown around in the design world, but it’s not necessarily true. Try using a deep color on all four walls in a bedroom. I love rich chocolate browns or a really deep aubergine. I did another bedroom recently with a black wallpaper with hummingbirds on it. These colors can be comforting and soothing while creating drama and evoking emotion. So forget the accent wall. That just looks like you were too scared to really go for it with color.
