Saturday. Jazz/Classical music. Cross-pollination among genres has been an important tool for musical development for centuries, and that remains as true as ever. In that crossover spirit, pianist Marcus Roberts, a Wynton Marsalis protégé, and his trio join the Boulder Philharmonic at 7:30 p.m. Saturday for a jazzy adaptation of Gershwin’s Concerto in F. Also included on the program is Brahms’ “Haydn Variations” and the premiere of Luis Gonzalez’s “The Wondrous City,” a celebration of the orchestra’s 50th anniversary. The concert will take place in Macky Auditorium on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus. Tickets are $10-$65. 303-449-1343, ext. 2, or

Saturday. Art exhibit. The handsome convergence of the intuitive and intensely analytical has given Clark Richert’s canvases expressive power and earned him the distinction as the leading painter living and working in Colorado. Seven of his recent paintings – all 70 inches square – are featured in “Quasi-Symmetries,” a solo exhibition running through Saturday at the Rule Gallery, 227 Broadway. Each of the patterned compositions derives its inspiration in some way from a mathematical or scientific source. Hours are 11 a.m. to

Monday-Tuesday. Rock. Neil Young has a way with the fragile ballad like nobody else. And as he begins his new record, “Chrome Dreams II,” with the backporch track “Beautiful Bluebird,” it’s obvious the legendary Canadian singer-songwriter hasn’t lost a step. The rest of the record is solid – and it’s a nice complement to the live CDs Young’s camp has released recently. Denver is in for some great shows on Monday and Tuesday when Young plays the Wells Fargo Theatre. Monday is sold out, but as of press time, there were still tickets available for Tuesday. $64-$104, ., 303-830-8497.
