KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The head of the World Figure Skating Museum & Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, Colo., has been picked to lead the National World War I Museum.

Brian Alexander will start the new job Nov. 12, the National World War I Museum at the Liberty Memorial said in a news release. Alexander was chosen by the Liberty Memorial Association’s board of governors.

The Liberty Memorial opened in Kansas City in 1926 to honor those who served in World War I. The National World War I Museum, which is under the towering monument, opened last December. Exhibits include battlefield equipment, artillery guns, biplanes and replicas of the trenches where doughboys fought and often died.

“The progress made by the museum during the last few years has been truly remarkable, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with the board, staff and supporters in continuing this impressive growth and making the museum the very best institution of its kind,” Alexander said in a news release.

Before leading the skating museum, Alexander served as president and chief executive officer of the Historic Annapolis Foundation in Maryland and as executive vice president and director of the Shelburne Museum in Vermont.
