Monarck has a new sister lounge, and she’s got expensive taste. 24k is a brand-new rooftop lounge located above Monarck at 1414 Market St., and it’s the crown jewel of Francois Safieddine’s downtown lounges (Safieddine also owns Mynt, Monarck and 5 Degrees).
The new lounge has a separate entrance off the alley between Market and Larimer streets, and is designed as a bottle-service- only VIP club with a dance floor and a dozen seating areas for groups of four to 15.
The decor, as you might expect, is all about glittering gold. Gold and chocolate brown banquettes line the perimeter of the loftlike space, with accents such as a gold-flecked granite bar, gold-tone hanging lanterns and chandeliers, gold-tinted mirrors and artsy photographs of a woman wearing nothing but gold body paint.
“It’s all about cohesiveness, and making sure all the details turned out right,” said Paulina Szafranski, who heads up marketing for all of Safieddine’s properties. “There’s not one bad seat in the house. And we took our time, waiting for just the right moment to open this space, since it’s the first place since Lotus and Karma that we made with a dance floor.”
Szafranski and Safieddine are hoping that 24k will attract a similar crowd to the VIPs who once frequented Karma.
“We wanted the VIPs to have a place that’s more intimate, but that’s also a specific dance club,” Szafranski said.
Though they won’t be charging a cover to join the crowd, expect to pay top dollar for bottle service to enjoy the VIP scene. The bar at 24k will be stocked with high-end spirits such as Absolut 100 ($210 per bottle) and Armand de Brignac champagne ($650 per bottle), along with exotic fruit juices (guava, passion fruit) for mixing.
Space is limited to about 200 guests per evening, and reservations for the first few nights are already filling up with eager
scenesters who want to be among the first to experience the new club.
“We already have a wait-list for the opening weekend, but we’ll see what we can do to get people in,” Szafranski said.
24k opens Thursday night, with an invitation-only reception from 8 to 10 p.m. followed by a fashion show at 10:30 p.m. that is open to the public. The festivities continue during the opening weekend, with a Cleopatra theme party Nov. 9 and a launch party to introduce the Armand de Brignac brand of champagne Nov. 10.
