AURORA, Colo.—Police say alcohol and excessive speed both appear to be factors in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 in Aurora that left one person dead.

Aurora police say 29-year-old Randell Elce Springer of Lakewood was westbound on I-70 and trying to pass a semi-truck early Wednesday morning when he drifted onto the left shoulder.

Authorities say Springer apparently tried to make a sudden exit onto Interstate 225 when he hit a concrete jersey barrier head-on.

His Mazda pickup flipped at least once and landed on its roof in the center lane of I-70.

A female passenger in the pickup was killed.

The crash closed westbound lanes of I-70 for more than five hours.

The woman’s name has not been released.
