MEEKER, Colo.—The state Wildlife Division and Great Outdoors Colorado have contributed a combined $1 million toward a conservation easement on 2,000 acres in Rio Blanco County.
The land is on the family-owned Lunney Mountain Ranch.
The Wildlife Division says the easement specifically protects habitat for the sharp-tailed grouse but benefits other wildlife as well.
The Yampa Valley Land Trust will hold the easement. The total value of the easement hasn’t been released.
Along with the sharp-tailed grouse, wildlife found on the ranch include elk, deer, beaver, muskrat, salamander, leopard frogs and songbirds.
Great Outdoors Colorado distributes income from the Colorado Lottery to outdoors-oriented projects.
