Grants to preserve Stapleton hangar
Thanks to a grant from the State Historical Fund, Colorado Preservation Inc. was able to purchase Hangar 61 at Stapleton for $194,825.
Another $200,000 grant will help Colorado Preservation stabilize the building, on 1.2 acres at Central Park Boulevard and 21st Avenue. Colorado Preservation has to match 25 percent of both grants.
Developer Larry Nelson will restore the 9,000-square-foot building after it’s stabilized. It will be sold when it’s finished.
Hangar 61 is one of the original buildings from the former Stapleton Airport in northeast Denver and faced demolition.
