LINCOLN, Neb.—Colonel Tim Kadavy, an Omaha native with combat experience, on Saturday took the oath of office to become the new leader of the Nebraska National Guard.
The 43-year-old replaced Major General Roger Lempke, who retired this month.
As the state’s adjutant general, Kadavy will lead the 4,500-member Nebraska National Guard.
“My main goal is to make sure everyone is educated on what is out there,” Kadavy said Saturday, referring to counseling and other services for Guard members returning to civilian life after deployment. “I plan to determine where the holes are and work there first.”
Kadavy began his career in 1982 with the Nebraska Army National Guard, and worked his way up. He later obtained federal status and held positions in Texas, Georgia and Virginia.
He returned to Nebraska in 2001 to command a squadron and led it during an eight-month deployment to Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2002 and 2003.
Kadavy most recently served as operations officer for the Army National Guard Directorate in Virginia.
