FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Five years after an Air Force airman who terrorized young women in this college town was sent to prison, police Friday said four sexual assaults and another attack in which a woman was choked may be the work of the same suspect or suspects.
The assaults began on Aug. 20 with the last two happening on Sept. 28.
“While there is no evidence that links these cases together, police are observing common behaviors from the suspect(s) involved in the cases and remind community members to use appropriate safety precautions,” police spokeswoman Rita Davis said in a statement.
The description of the suspect is the same in the cases: a 5-foot-8 inch, stocky Hispanic or white male with a shaved head or slight hair re-growth.
The first attack Aug. 20 involved a 22-year-old woman who was grabbed as she walked in a park late at night. She was choked but the suspect suddenly stopped, apologized then offered to drive her home.
In at least two other cases, women ages 19 and 21 were awaken by being sexually assaulted, Davis said.
Troy Graves, a then 30-year-old airman who worked on missile maintenance at Cheyenne’s F.E. Warren Air Force Base, was captured and sentenced in 2002 to six consecutive 10- to 20-year terms for rapes in Fort Collins between 1997 and 1999. He was also sentenced to life in prison for the 1998 slaying of Shannon Schieber, a 23-year-old University of Pennsylvania student.
