In turkey years, 33 is a ripe old age. Just goes to show what a little exercise will do.
If you would like to see for yourself, head out to Westview Middle School in northwest Longmont on Saturday morning for the 33rd annual Longmont Turkey Trot (coincidentally sponsored by Butterball).
The 10K run kicks off at 9 a.m., followed by a 2-mile fun run beginning at 9:25 a.m. Preregistration remains open on the Web, at all city of Longmont recreation facilities and from 4-6 p.m. Friday at the school (1651 Airport Road) for a fee of $20. After the first family member pays, all others receive a $2 discount. Race-day registration, however, bumps up to $25, accepted Saturday until 8:45 a.m. (Senior and youth discounts are offered.)
First-place finishers in all age groups can recoup their registration in the form of a Butterball turkey as a reward. Everyone else can take satisfaction in knowing that race proceeds will go toward the city’s Recreation and Youth Scholarship Fund, created to assist children with the cost of recreational activities. And, of course, that the turkey will live on for another year.
