How can I create a unique new room – something different from what’s common or popular?

Visit antiques stores and architectural salvage businesses for wood or iron remnants. Use these pieces to add interest, originality and a warm sense of the past. Use wooden Indonesian stair balusters for table legs, for instance, reclaimed colonial iron stair balusters for exterior window details, or a carved teak panel from Bali for a vanity front. In many cases, these pieces cost less than traditional materials, and the charm they add is immeasurable.
