Broncos wide receiver Rod Smith spoke with the media for the first time since his season came to an end last week, and Smith’s message was clear: He still is pulling for his team.
“It’s about us, not me,” Smith said. “That’s why I haven’t talked about it yet. My role may be limited, but my heart is still in it.”
Smith said he is “not worried” about next year. It appears Smith, 37, will decide later if he will attempt to play next season. Because of his age and his injury status, it would seem to be a longshot for Smith to make it back on the field.
Smith had hip surgery in February. He said today he originally was told it would take eight months for him to recover, but was later told it would take a year.
“It’s been horrible,” Smith said.
