Lori Sue Salminen, 23, of Edgewater has been sentenced to four years of probation for theft and forgery for writing seven restitution checks to herself while working in the Jefferson County clerk of combined courts office.
Salminen was a contract worker in the clerk’s office between February and June 2006. She was a bookkeeper with access to computer records on restitution and issued restitution checks to crime victims.
In today’s sentencing, Salminen also was ordered to repay the $7,912.40 that she stole, undergo substance-abuse treatment and perform 96 hours of community service.
“Apologies don’t make it better,” Salminen told the court. “I will do my best to repay.”
She also apologized to a co-worker whom she falsely implicated in the scheme.
“I could have lost my job, lost my retirement,” the co-worker said. “She made a victim out of me.”
