ASPEN, Colo.—A climber who tumbled 60 feet after he was struck in the head by a boulder on Pyramid Peak was flown to Aspen Valley Hospital.

Pitkin County sheriff’s officials say 23-year-old Andy McClure of Center had reached about 13,000 feet on the peak, about 11 miles south of Aspen, when McClure dislodged the boulder that struck him around 10 a.m. Authorities say he suffered injuries to his head and left hip and was unable to walk.

His climbing partner Ian Noel of Colorado Springs helped McClure to a safe area before going for help.

A helicopter flew McClure to the hospital.
