For the record: Georgia Southern 7-3, 4-3 Southern Conference
Streaking: Georgia Southern had scored first in every game until Saturday’s 24-22 loss to Furman.
Who’s hot: Quarterback Jayson Foster passed for a career-high three touchdowns in the loss and eclipsed 1,000 yards passing. He also has more than 1,000 yards rushing.
Who’s not: Jesse Hartley missed a 33-yard field goal as time expired, and missed two other field goals.
Key stat: Georgia Southern drew 23,373 to its home finale, likely a larger crowd than CSU will get at Hughes Stadium this week.
FYI: Georgia Southern could have secured an NCAA Division I-AA playoff bid by beating Furman. The Eagles defeated Southern Conference rival Appalachian State 38-35 on Oct. 20. Appalachian State was the most famous school in the country for one week early in the season after its upset win over Michigan.
Coachspeak: “We were in field-goal range, and we’re not the greatest passing team. We’ve got a good kicker, and we still have a good kicker. He didn’t kick as well as we wanted him to today.” – GSU coach Chris Hatcher, on the missed field goal at the end of the Furman game
