The Nebraska-Kearney women’s volleyball team finished a dominating run through the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, winning the league’s tournament championship Sunday in four games – 30-28, 24-30, 30-17 and 30-25 – over Colorado-Colorado Springs at the Health and Sports Center in Kearney.

The Lopers (31-4) won their 17th consecutive match and achieved more than 30 wins for the 23rd time in school history. CU-Colorado Springs (20-12) was playing in its first RMAC title game.

Nikki Scott led the Lopers with 21 kills and Erica Burson added 20. Cola Svec contributed 65 assists.

Diane Sheldon’s 17 kills led the Mountain Lions.

Metro State bows out. The Incarnate Word women’s soccer team eliminated defending national champion Metro State (16-4-2) from the NCAA Division II Tournament when a penalty-kick shootout gave the Cardinals a 3-2, second-round victory at Auraria Field.

Incarnate Word (17-2-2) received goals from Sarah Graef and Sarah Hernandez. Metro State’s Jaclyn Percy tied the playoff game 1-1 in the 75th minute, and the Roadrunners’ Becca Mays scored her 19th goal of the season for a 2-2 tie in the 85th minute.

Bears lose Big Sky title game. The Sacramento State women’s soccer team blanked the Northern Colorado Bears 3-0 to win the Big Sky Conference championship in Sacramento, Calif. Northern Colorado (8-9-3) was playing in its first Big Sky title game.

Sacramento State (12-3-5) received a goal from Kim Kemper in the eighth minute and never looked back.

Cox helps UNC cruise in opener. Whitley Cox scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, leading the Northern Colorado women’s basketball team to a season-opening 75-51 victory over San Francisco in Greeley. The Bears had their largest lead midway through the second half, when they went ahead 55-27.

Steele stars in AFA loss. Alecia Steele led Air Force with 18 points and 12 rebounds – her 16th career double-double – but Missouri-Kansas City never trailed and defeated the Falcons 65-59 in women’s basketball.
