
BOSCAWEN, N.H. — Republican John McCain found himself on the giving and receiving ends of tributes Sunday in a ceremony at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery.
The Arizona senator and presidential hopeful joined state officials and several hundred people on a cold, sunny morning for a Veterans Day ceremony and was repeatedly thanked for his service during the years he spent as a Vietnam prisoner of war.
McCain in turn paid tribute to military members serving in Iraq and thanked those at home for supporting the troops regardless of how they may feel about the war.
Edwards to push more PTSD help
PLYMOUTH, N.H. — North Carolina Democrat and presidential contender John Edwards is introducing a $400 million plan today to help veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder. Under Edwards’ plan, veterans could seek counseling for PTSD outside the Veterans Health Administration; the number of counselors would be increased; and family members would be employed to identify cases of PTSD.
Clinton, Romney lead in N.H., poll says
Republican Mitt Romney and Democrat Hillary Clinton hold leads over rivals in their parties among likely voters in the New Hampshire primary, a Boston Globe poll from Nov. 2-7 found. Thirty-two percent of 404 New Hampshire Republicans surveyed said they support Romney, compared with 20 percent for Rudy Giuliani and 17 percent for John McCain. Clinton received 35 percent support among 400 likely Democratic primary voters, compared with 21 percent for Barack Obama and 15 percent for John Edwards. The margin of error was 4.9 percentage points.
