Pueblo firefighters battled two blazes late Sunday night and early Monday, one at a north-side restaurant and another involving a tractor-trailer rig containing supplies for U.S. troops.
Firefighters responding to Kuan’s Kitchen, 750 Desert Flower Blvd., at 1:25 a.m. found thick, black smoke pouring through the roof of the eatery, said Woody Percival, a fire inspector for the Pueblo Fire Department.
He said the fire was quickly extinguished, and damage was estimated at $30,000. The origin of the fire, he added, was probably a kitchen trash can.
Percival attributed the limited damage to an early alarm from a passer-by who saw smoke and to the rapid response of firefighters, who were at the scene within six minutes.
Shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday, Pueblo firefighters responded to a fire in the parking lot behind Denny’s restaurant, 3600 N. Freeway Road, where they found a tractor-trailer rig, with the tractor fully engulfed in flames.
Percival said that fire was extinguished with little damage to the Mayflower trailer, which was loaded with military supplies. He said no cause could be determined because of the extensive damage.
