First Data Corp. said today that it will cut 6 percent of its global workforce in a consolidation that will claim about 100 positions in Denver.
A 6 percent cut translates into about 1,700 positions out of a workforce of 29,000 at the electronic payments processor.
The job losses in Denver, where Greenwood Village-based First Data employs about 2,000 workers, are in a broad range of positions, including management.
First Data said it continues to add workers through acquisitions, which should leave its total workforce constant at year-end.
The position cuts are coming largely through the consolidation of smaller offices.
“These decisions are never easy to make, and we understand the impact on people’s lives,” said First Data spokeswoman Staci Busby. “We will do everything that we can to support the affected employees through this transition.”
All employees losing their jobs will be eligible to receive severance benefits and outplacement services.
Even as it loses jobs, Denver will gain a still-undetermined number of jobs as technology and product development groups are moved here.
First Data, once Colorado’s largest public company in market value, went private in September after the leveraged buyout firm Kohlberg Kravis & Roberts Co. purchased it for $26 billion.
