Nick Nuanes was formally named Denver fire chief Thursday.
Mayor John Hickenlooper announced the appointment, saying in a news release: “Nick Nuanes is a career professional. He began as a line firefighter and worked his way through the ranks of the Denver Fire Department.”
The manager of safety, Al LaCabe, said Nuanes is “an extremely capable leader whose innovation and dedication to the department have earned the respect and goodwill of our workforce and our community.”
Nuanes has been with the Denver Fire Department 34 years. He is currently division chief of Denver International Airport. He succeeds Chief Larry Trujillo, who retired Sept. 1.
“I am deeply honored and excited by the opportunity to lead the Denver Fire Department,” Nuanes was quoted as saying in the release. “I have the greatest respect for the organization and for our employees.”
