Backup center Steven Hunter, suffering from a right knee inflammation, will undergo surgery today. Nuggets coach George Karl speculated Hunter will be out at least a month.
Though Hunter rarely plays, he has been helpful during practice, which creates a hole in the practice routine.
The Nuggets are also without power forward Nene, out six weeks with a thumb injury, which has thinned the frontcourt.
“I’m nervous about my big guys,” Karl said today. “The one thing I always said is that injuries have a way of slowing down your progress. You can kind of Band-Aid success, but you don’t build fundamentals and foundation.”
Hunter appeared in four games this season, averaging 0.8 points and 1.3 rebounds in 4.8 minutes.
