DENVER—A state task force on health care is ready to make recommendations to lawmakers that could drastically increase the numbers of uninsured.

William Lindsay III, chair of the commission convened by Gov. Bill Ritter, said the panel will decide next week which recommendations to forward to lawmakers. A final report is expected by Dec. 20 and commissioners will meet Jan. 10 to approve it.

The commission listed ways Thursday to simplify administrative processes for health care providers. It asked The Lewin Group, a consultancy, to model them.

Strategies include requiring all health plans to issue identity cards that conform to nationally accepted standards, simplifying eligibility and coverage verification, standardizing claim forms and Medicaid procedures, and creating an appeals process.

The commission said there are an estimated 792,000 uninsured residents, including about 180,000 children. All but 2 percent could be insured under some recommendations, it said.
