AOL’s home page Thursday featured the full-color mug of the oldest CEO in Denver and maybe America, Jack Weil at Rockmount Ranch Wear.
It linked to a story slugged “Why Eight CEOs Won’t Stop,” profiling eight men and women over 80 who still go to work.
But Weil is 106. The rest of the gang are a bunch of whippersnappers, ages 80-89. Kids!
The story reports that even though Weil’s son, Jack B., is retired and grandson Steve is president of Rockmount, Grandpa Jack has no intention of quitting. “What the %&$# else would I do?” he asks.
Magazine-land. Could Colorado get any more magazines?
Seems the answer is “yes.” The NY Post reports that Jack Ford, 55, the son of late President Gerald Ford, will helm a biweekly glossy called Mountain Time that’ll be inserted in 20 small dailies at ritzy ski resorts.
He has teamed up with magazine man Don Welsh, who has imprints such as Muppet, Barbie, He-Man.
Ford spent plenty of time in Vail when growing up (even before Ford was president, the family had a condo at The Lodge), so he knows the territory. And the Vail Daily and Grand Junction Free Press, with about 15,000 circulation each, are the biggest papers that’ll carry Mountain Time.
Shoot. The crowd at CU-Boulder women’s basketball games is always confused when they read the roster. Sophomore Whitney Houston from Memphis, Tenn., is a 5-foot-5 guard; freshman Brittany Spears from Pasadena, Calif., is a 6-foot-1 forward.
To the Max. It’s a good week for Peter Max. He illustrates Newsweek’s cover, a story on 1968, and he’s in Denver on Saturday and Sunday at his temporary gallery at 2721 E. Third Ave.
In Newsweek, Max says of ’68: “My art was all cosmic images, flying stars, galaxies. It was not depicting a brand new world, but a wish for a brand new world.”
