True story. After covering the Broncos for the first month of the season, I spent five weeks with the Rockies and tending to some family affairs.
When I returned to Dove Valley, I barely recognized the place. Or at least some of the people who now call it home.
Larry Birdine? Josh Mallard? Taylor Jacobs? Who are these guys?
The Broncos find themselves in full-scale deck-shuffling mode, having made 12 personnel transactions in one recent nine-day span. Oh, and did we mention they had a players-only meeting, too?
These are volatile times for the Broncos, a team normally associated with winning and stability. Given all the personnel changes and inexperience on the roster, Mike Shanahan will have all he can do to finish .500, much less make the playoffs.
A losing season? Sure, it’s possible. But then, this is Shanahan we’re talking about. He always finds a way to be competitive. Only once has one of his Broncos teams not finished with a winning record.
