Sunday was a good day for the idle Broncos. Tonight, they could end the NFL weekend tied for first place in the AFC West with a win over the Tennessee Titans.
First-place San Diego was beaten at Jacksonville 24-17 to fall to 5-5. Denver is 4-5 going into its game tonight at Invesco Field at Mile High against the 6-3 Titans. Kansas City (4-6), which Denver beat last Sunday, lost at Indianapolis, 13-10.
The Broncos have a schedule advantage over San Diego and Kansas City in the final six weeks of the season. Tennessee is the last team on Denver’s slate currently with a winning record. San Diego and Kansas City each have two games versus teams with winning records.
Injury update. Running back Travis Henry likely will be a game-time decision. The Broncos were hopeful after he participated in a contact-filled practice Thursday. Henry has a partially torn posterior cruciate ligament that kept him out of last week’s game.
Denver expects safety John Lynch to play for the first time since sustaining a pinched nerve Oct. 29 against Green Bay.
Will team meeting still have steam? Last week, after the 27-11 victory over Kansas City, many Denver players credited an impromptu players-only meeting held Nov. 7.
So will the team meeting continue to pay dividends?
“I think it will,” said left tackle Matt Lepsis, one of the players who spoke at the meeting. “We had one of these in the past and it really got us together for the rest of the season.”
Titans update. Star Tennessee defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth is going to be a game-time decision with a hamstring injury, and cornerback Nick Harper will also be a game-time decision with a strained neck.
