The University of Colorado men’s basketball team Tuesday accepted an invitation to play in the 2009 Maui Invitational, the annual Thanksgiving week tournament featuring some of the nation’s top teams.

In addition to CU and host Chaminade, the other teams scheduled to appear are Arizona, Gonzaga, Louisville, Maryland, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin.

CU will play in the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu in the 2008-09 season.

CU signs two California golfers. The Colorado women’s golf team got commitments from two standouts, and close friends, from Northern California: Emily Childs of Alameda and Emily Talley of Napa.

Childs placed sixth in the state championship and claimed second in two AJGA events over the summer. Her cousin, Adin Brown, was a goalkeeper for the Colorado Rapids in 2000-01 and now plays professionally in Norway.

Talley is also an AJGA veteran and placed 15th at the state championship.

Mines hoops signs one. Colorado Mines has received a commitment from Dale Minschwaner of Albuquerque. He averaged 18 points and nine rebounds for Sandia Prep as a junior last season. Coach Pryor Orser said he likes the 6-foot-5 center’s versatility, both defensively and offensively, and said Minschwaner has shooting range beyond the 3-point arc.
