Forget the balmy weather of the last few days. Clouds have covered the sun, the temperature is in a swoon and snow could be falling tonight.

After a high temperature of 50 in Denver today, the mercury fell to 31 degrees by 1 p.m. Temperatures are expected to continue dropping to as low as 17 degrees tonight.

And 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected in Denver today, especially after 11 p.m, according to the National Weather Service.

Another 1 to 2 inches of snow is forecast for Wednesday, with a high temperature near 28.

Thanksgiving Day should be partly sunny with a high temperature of 32 in Denver. More snow, only a slight chance, could move into the area Friday, and the high could climb to 38 degrees.

Snow accumulations in the mountains should be a little deeper than in Denver, and colder temperatures in the high country will allow ski-area workers to blast more manmade snow onto the slopes.

Vail could see up to 5 inches of snow before Thanksgiving Day, according to the weather service. Skiers and boarders should be hitting the slopes under partly sunny skies Thursday, and Vail’s high temperature on Thanksgiving is expected to climb to 29 degrees.
