Loveland police are investigating complaints of racial profiling and excessive use of force made by women arrested during a traffic stop earlier this month.

Loveland police stopped Sabrina Williams, 29, for failure to signal a lane change in the 900 block of W. 29th St. close to midnight on Nov. 9.

In a police report of the incident, officers said Williams and passenger Jesthenia Williams, 31, resisted arrest and screamed obscenities at them.

In the report, officer Rod Bretches said that one of the three women in the car told him she was being arrested because she was black. “As I began to transport the female to the police department, she told me that this was the 21st century and that a ‘redneck was once again chaining up the black woman.’ ”

Sabrina Williams was charged with driving while ability impaired by alcohol/drugs and with obstructing a peace officer.

Jesthenia Williams was charged with obstructing a peace officer.

Rebecca Williams, 29, was charged with failure to obey a lawful order.

“Rebecca, although slightly argumentative, was compliant,” officer Brandon Johnson said in the report.

She was issued a summons at the scene and released.
