
A woman is dead and her boyfriend in custody after a stabbing early this morning in Northglenn.
Police say Melvin Amaya-Martinez, 34, stabbed Carmen Benitez-Sanchez in her side at their apartment at 10648 Huron Street about 1 a.m.
Benitez-Sanchez’s adult son and his wife were there. They told police that Amaya-Martinez, the boyfriend, had stabbed the victim and fled.
Officers immediately searched the surrounding area, found him, and took him into custody.
Benitez-Sanchez was taken to Saint Anthony North Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Amaya-Martinez told officials he is from El Salvador and in the country illegally. He was taken to the Adams County Detention Facility and is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder.
