COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Junior center Chad Rau scored three goals and freshman goaltender Richard Bachman recorded 28 saves to lead Colorado College to a 5-1 win against Denver Friday night at the World Arena.

Fourth-ranked CC (8-3-0, 8-1-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) extended its winning streak to six games and also extended its unbeaten streak against the third-ranked Pioneers to six games.

“This year, (Rau) looks a little more fleet of foot,” Colorado College coach Scott Owens said. “Hes really confident with the puck on his stick right now and I think that line has good chemistry. A couple of those goals were because of that good chemistry.”

Rau, who entered the contest with eight goals and four assists in eight games against Denver, gave the Tigers the lead for good with his first goal late in the first and added another with less than 20 seconds remaining in the second. Colorado College had a 3-1 lead at the second intermission.

Rau put the game out of reach with a goal at the 5:42 mark of the third and Colorado College defenseman Nate Prosser, who also had an assist, capped the scoring with the first goal of his career during a power-play opportunity later in the period.

The Pioneers (8-3-0, 5-2-0 WCHA), who saw their four-game winning streak end, could not add a second goal against Bachman despite 29 shots and four power-play opportunities. Bachman improved to 8-1-0 and is unbeaten (8-0) in league play.

Colorado College’s Cody Lampl opened the scoring with his first goal of the season early in the first. Denver’s Brock Trotter tied the game 1-1 with his sixth goal before Rau took over.

Jimmy Kilpatrick and Scott Thauwald, Raus linemates, each posted a pair of assists.

“(Denver) has a great team and they are going to play a lot better tomorrow,” Rau said. “I had a couple of good bounces and some good passes from my linemates. Without those, I wouldnt have had those chances.”
