ENGLEWOOD, Colo.—Fire officials say a student pilot and his instructor walked away unhurt after they had to belly-land their plane at Centennial airport in Englewood.
South Metro Fire Rescue spokesman Bob Smith says the Cessna 172 skidded for about 600 feet before coming to a stop Thursday afternoon. There was no fire.
Smith says the pilot instructor reported a warning light indicated the plane’s landing gear were not locked into place. When he flew past the tower, air traffic controllers confirmed the gear were not in the right position.
The plane circled the airport for an hour to burn off fuel before the landing.
The names of the instructor and student pilot weren’t available.
