DENVER—The online retailer eBags.com says its orders in the week before Cyber Monday rose 40 percent over the same week last year.

The privately held company based in Greenwood Village did not release dollar figures.

The National Retail Federation refers to the Monday after Thanksgiving as “Cyber Monday,” when consumers going back to their work computers lift online shopping figures for many merchants.

CEO Jon Nordmark says eBags’ growth is due largely to a near doubling in the variety of handbags it sells, plus the customer reviews it offers, the use of video on its Web site, and its use of online sites like Facebook and YouTube.
