COLORADO HIGH COUNTRY — The southern San Juan Mountains got 3 to 6 inches of snow this weekend while the central mountains south of Interstate 70 got 1 to 2 inches, according to Carl Burroughs, meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

Ski resorts said they were pleased with their holiday conditions.

“The crowds are good, and we’ve got a lot of man-made and natural snow,” said Loveland marketing director John Sellers. There is an 18-inch snow base in Loveland with 12 open trails and three chairlifts.

At Copper Mountain, ski officials reported an 18-inch snow base and celebrated the opening of the Main Vein Superpipe for ski and snowboarding professionals. The resort also opened 159 acres and six chairlifts.

“We’ve really had consistent conditions,” said Copper Mountain spokeswoman Lauren Pelletreau.

Other ski resorts won’t open until later this month or early December.

Echo Mountain, Sunlight and Steamboat Springs are scheduled to open Nov. 30. Howelsen will open Dec. 1, with Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands scheduled to open Dec. 8.

Opening dates for Monarch, Telluride and Ski Cooper have not been been announced yet.
