Vestas Wind Systems, the Danish wind turbine manufacturer with a Colorado presence, said Thursday that it is searching out locations for a new U.S. research center.
Vestas wants the research and development center, which will employ up to 80 people when fully operational in 2010, to be located near a large and recognized university.
Vestas broke ground on its first U.S. wind turbine manufacturing plant earlier this year in Windsor, east of Interstate 25 in Weld County. Vestas, which originally planned to employ 400 workers, revised it to 650 as demand grows for alternative energy sources.
Vestas has installed more than 9,300 wind turbines in the U.S., and demand continues to grow.
