A 74-year-old liquor store owner shot and killed a robbery suspect this afternoon in Colorado Springs, police report.

Preliminary information indicated that a man entered Jetway Liquors at 1645 Jetwing Drive, displayed a weapon and demanded cash, Colorado Springs police said in a press release. The man behind the counter then fired a single shot striking the suspect in the chest, police said.

The identity of the dead man is unknown. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy.

The name of the man who fired the shot is not being released due to his age, which makes him an At-Risk Adult, police said. He has not been arrested and no charges have been considered pending a review by the District Attorney’s Office.
