ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo.—Boulder County coroner’s officials have identified a hiker killed by a fallen tree in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Park officials say 68-year-old William Hudson of Boulder was pushed to the ground by a 50-foot tall Douglas fir Tuesday and hit his head on a large rock on the right side of a trail.
Hudson’s hiking partner, 68-year-old Carl Cox of Boulder, also was hit by the tree but was able to go for help.
Park officials say the tree was believed to have died several years ago. They say the top broke off 15 feet above the ground and glanced off three standing trees before landing on the trail.
