DENVER—Ryan Duncan scored a power-play goal and a shorthanded goal to lead eighth-ranked North Dakota to a 3-1 win Saturday over third-ranked Denver and a split of the teams’ Western Collegiate Hockey Association series.
Chris VandeVelde also scored on the power play for the Fighting Sioux (7-5-1, 5-5-0 WCHA), who dropped the first game of the series 1-0 on Friday.
T.J. Oshie had two assists and Duncan also picked up an assist for North Dakota.
VandeVelde put the Sioux up 1-0 on the power play four minutes into the first period. Oshie and Duncan assisted on the goal.
Duncan then broke a personal six-game goal scoring drought on the power play early in the second period to give the Sioux a 2-0 lead.
After Tyler Bozak scored to pull Denver (10-4-0, 7-3-0) within a goal, Duncan answered with the Pioneers on the power play. Duncan and VandeVelde broke in alone on Denver goalie Peter Mannino and Duncan finished the rush with his third point of the game.
North Dakota goalie Jean-Philippe Lamoureux stopped 35 shots, including 24 in the third period.
Mannino had 22 saves.
