While critics might dismiss “White Christmas” as a stale holiday chestnut, even curmudgeonly film buffs welcome the chance to see a new print made from the 35mm film, and backstage insights into the co-star, Danny Kaye.
The print is showing at 4 p.m. this afternoon in Leadville’s Silver City Cinema, introduced by Victoria Paige Meyerink, a child star on “The Danny Kaye Show” and a longtime family friend of Kaye’s. She still remembers how he and his wife always signed their annual Christmas cards — “A Merry and a Happy” — and the antics Kaye pulled when he staged dinner parties.
Discover more inside-Hollywood details when Meyerink speaks at the screening at Silver City; get dish with your dishes at the dinner afterward with Meyerink and her husband, Hollywood producer Lawrence David Foldes, who live part time in Leadville.
The movie and dinner costs $39; movie only is $12, which includes pre-film caroling (at 3 p.m.) and a chance to see three vintage trailers, including an Abbott & Costello pitch for war bonds and a priceless pitch for a laughably dubbed foreign film about Santa. All proceeds go to the Independence Film Fest, the feisty festival that debuted in Leadville, Salida and Buena Vista last September.
