LARAMIE — Aubrey Vandiver had 25 points and 12 rebounds to help No. 25 Wyoming beat Denver 61-45 on Saturday.
The Cowgirls (6-0) trailed by as many as eight points in the first half after missing their first seven shots. But Vandiver scored nine points in a 17-5 run early in the second half to give Wyoming a 34-25 lead.
Jodi Bolerjack scored 15 points and Hanna Zavecz added 11 for Wyoming. Zavecz also had nine rebounds and a game-high seven assists.
Alisha Godette led Denver (2-3) with 17 points and Sara Benham had 14. Nnenna Akotaobi scored 10.
The Pioneers jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Godette scored 11 straight Denver points to help the Pioneers to a 20-17 advantage at the break.
“We talked at halftime that Denver was going to switch all our screens, and we just needed to relax,” Wyoming coach Joe Legerski said. “We need to just relax, be patient and attack the basket.
“We were up three at half against the No.25-ranked team in the country, and in the second half, we didn’t match their mental intensity,” Denver coach Pam Tanner said.
