LONGMONT, Colo.—Western Digital Corp. plans to open its third design center Monday in Longmont. It would be the first such center outside California.
The hard drive maker is moving into space formerly occupied by Cornice, a now-defunct hard drive maker.
Lake Forest, Calif.-based Western Digital is expected to have about 100 employees in Longmont within a year, most of whom would be hired locally, said Marty Finkbeiner, the company’s senior vice president of drive engineering.
Finkbeiner said the high-quality local work force had a lot to do with Western Digital’s decision to open a Longmont facility. The Longmont-Boulder area is well known as a hotbed for data storage companies, he said.
For fiscal 2007, Western Digital reported a 48 percent increase in earnings to $585 million and a 26 percent increase in revenue to $5.47 billion.
