If Albert Einstein were a skier, he’d wear a FlyLow Puff Coat (MSRP: $275) based purely on their shared philosophy: Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.
This latest among the new annual offerings from the Denver-based freeride apparel gurus at FlyLow is absolutely genius in its simplicity, from the sheer notion of a soft-shell waterproof garment that’s comfortable in almost any climate to our personal favorite feature — the quick-snap powder-guard.
FlyLow streamlines the powder skirt concept by incorporating three small webbing strips that snap to the belt loops of your pants on deep days, sealing snow outside your personal cocoon of warm, silky insulation. The 160-gram Thermolite synthetic filling (120 grams in the arms) is covered in four-way stretch fabric that combines durable bamboo fibers and polyester with DuPont DWR-5 waterproofing to create a cold-weather ski jacket capable of standing up to the rigors of the hard-charging modern skier. A big tractor- tooth front zip is easy to handle with gloves on for cold days, and huge pit zippers help control the climate when it’s warmer.
Add a few refinements like the MP3 stash pocket, three-point hood cinch and a dope stitch pattern, and the Puff Coat remains simple, yet very fly indeed.
