BEAVER CREEK — Resi Stiegler just wants to have fun, and she had a blast Monday on Beaver Creek’s Birds of Prey.

Stiegler, a free spirit from Jackson, Wyo., who primarily races slalom and giant slalom on the women’s World Cup, was a forerunner before Monday’s men’s World Cup super-G. Forerunners are used to make sure there are no problems with the course or the timing equipment. Female forerunners at men’s races are rare.

“I’ll take any chance I can get to race on the men’s course because it’s so sweet,” said Stiegler, who missed a gate on the way down.

Top speeds in Monday’s race approached 60 mph, about double the typical speed in slalom. Race officials declined to release data on Stiegler’s run.

Stiegler has raced five super-Gs on the women’s World Cup and expects to do another Saturday in Aspen.

“To even get on the hill and inspect a super-G, getting ready for Aspen, was good for me,” Stiegler said.

Stiegler’s mother, Carrie, was there to watch.

“She’s got more guts than anyone I know,” Carrie Stiegler said. “For her, the more on the edge, the better.”
