AIR FORCE ACADEMY, COLO. — A civilian employee of the U.S.

Air Force Academy has died of her injuries after a hit-and-run collision near the academy’s community center.

The collision happened about 9 a.m. Monday, forcing officials to close both the north and the south entrance gates while authorities searched for the motorist.

Academy spokesman John Van Winkle says medical aid, including an air ambulance, was called to the scene, but the woman was already dead by the time paramedics arrived.

The Colorado State Patrol says the vehicle suspected of hitting the woman has been located, but the driver has not yet been found.

The victim’s identity has not been released.
