GREELEY, Colo.—The Greeley Stampede could lose a major sponsor after the City Council voted to bar the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco company from giving away free samples at the annual rodeo.
The company provided the Stampede with a rodeo scoreboard. Stampede officials say it will cost at least $200,000 to find another scoreboard in U.S. Smokeless pulls out.
It’s not clear yet how U.S. Smokeless will respond to the vote.
The council voted 4-to-3 Tuesday night to ban tobacco handouts for health reasons. Denver and Boulder have similar bans.
