In the several years that Alma resident Dave Cooper has been writing the “Trail Mix” column for The Denver Post, he has covered dozens of spectacular ice and snow routes around the state.

“Colorado Snow Climbs: A Guide for All Seasons” ($22.95, The Colorado Mountain Club Press) is a collection of the slopes and walls that he’s puzzled over and been challenged by in the 27 years he’s hiked, climbed and scrambled all over the Colorado mountains, plus some Cooper simply knows others will enjoy.

Detailed in Cooper’s usual meticulous style, the routes are arranged to follow the seasons so that climbers can look out the window and decide what climbs make the most sense based on the amount of snow or ice likely to be covering the rocks.

Included for the more than 50 climbs (offered for a variety of skill levels) are National Geographic-based topographic maps, color photos, alternate routes, GPS way-points and Cooper’s helpful comments.
