WASHINGTON — The House approved legislation aimed at boosting alternative energy sources such as wind and solar power at the expense of the oil-and-gas industry. It faces GOP opposition in the Senate and a presidential veto threat.
The House measure, approved 235-181, would raise car fuel-economy standards, increase the use of gasoline alternatives, boost efficiency measures and require utilities to get 15 percent of their power from renewable sources.
